Apport de la microcalorimétrie dans la taxonomie de quelques groupes d'E n t e r o b a c t e r i a c e a e . - Canad. J. Microbiol. 26, 413 -419 (1980)
The thermogenesis of 17 strains belonging to 12 species of the Enterobacte-riaceae family was measured at 30°C with an ampoule microcalorimeter. It was analyzed qualitatively (aspect of profiles) and quantitatively (total heat evolved, thermogenesis duration, maximum thermal power). The value of these criteria is discussed with respect to their discriminating value in the classification of bacteria. The information obtained may concur with the identification of spécies; it gives ground to reconsider actual phenotypes and taxonomy generally. (Sp)

Hyg., I. Abt.Orig. A 246, 236 - 275 (1980) As the base composition of deoxyribonucleic acid has become a highly significant parameter in the taxonomy of bacteria, a reference list for the known deoxyribonucleic acid base composition (G + C) values of bacteria is given which compiles the data published between 1972 and 1978. - (1 Tab.)

SCHMIDT, J. M. and J. R. SWAFFORD (Dept. Botany Microbiol., Arizona State Univ., Tempe/Ariz. 85281). Isolation and Morphology of Helically Sculptured, Rosette-Forming, Freshwater Bacteria Resembling Se libéria. (Abstract) - Curr. Microbiol. 3, 65 - 70 (1979) Nine independently isolated bacterial strains of helically sculptured rods were obtained from dilute peptone enrichments of freshwater sources. Enrichment and isolation procedures exploited the oligotrophic character of these bacteria. They exhibited tenacious adhesiveness, asymmetric fission or budding (which was dependent on the cultural conditions), and a polar or subpolar flagellum in their motile stage. Their adhesiveness was mediated by an excreted holdfast at one pole; stellate aggregation (rosette formation) was qommonly observed. Motile daughter cells were generated from the apical end of the rod, opposite the adhesive or attached pole. Their fine pili (4nm diameter) did not seem to be involved in aggregation. Growth on media containing ulmic acid stimulated production of spherical or oval cell-like bodies. These aquatic isolates resemble the soil bacterium Seliberia stellata in many of their morphological features. (Sp)
