KEVIN CURTIS - the wheelchair-bound sailor who capiured gold at the Para-lympics in Barcelona (see Notes & News, October 9th issue) is the new Silk Cut Helmsman of the Year. This award, one of the highest accolades in the sport, shows a long-overdue change in attitude to ihe 'seriousness' of competitive disabled sailing. I'm hoping that Kevin won't mind me saying that I believe the award is also for all those handicapped sailors who have achieved so much over the 1992 season. They include: ourother Paralympic sailors, the British team at the 2.4 Metre class worlds, Geoff Holt (who sailed his special Challenger tri around the Isle of Wight to raise money for charily), our gold and silver winning sailors who dominated the international blind regatta in New Zealand, those involved in the 'Dolphin' Round Britain race project, Sailability, and the thousands of others who sail successfully despite the odds being stacked against them. This award is for you too . THIS ISSUE of Y&Y sees the publication of our Racing Classes Review which lists dinghy, cat and keelboat classes, their contact numbers and host of other pertinent info. My colleague. Sue Pelling. who masterminded this annual statistical 'Cape Horn', tells me she had a great lime pulling it together.
