Bővebb ismertető
AN INTRODUCTION TO WRESTLING Wrestling is one of the oldest sports and is very popular with children. The sport has endured because it has always been able to adapt to and meet peoples' needs and ideals over its history, in addition to the role it has played in life-saving self defense. Today, modern wrestling faces new difficulties that pose different problems, including: • the loss of direct combat characteristics due to scientific and technical innovations; • motivational factors which encouraged competition in the past (over several millennia) have been (largely/for the most part) been eliminated due to lifestyle changes; • modern rules of competition make it impossible for spectators to appreciate the true beauty and moves inherent in wrestling; • no scientifically-based approach has been developed, or has become generally accepted, as to why and how cfiil-dren should take part in wrestling due to the lack of research that has been carried out in this field. The most noticeable weakness of the sport today is the lack of will and morals that are instilled in our wrestlers. The significance of wrestling in training today is the fact that wrestling has a greater affect on the development of the body and the shaping of the personality than almost any other sport. Throughout history, wrestling's role has been to "make men out of men." This is especially true today: as peoples' material comfort (liking comfort because you are lazy and don't want to do sport, e.g.) has increased, their physical activity has decreased, to a frightening degree. Wrestling is a societal need. Spreading this realization depends on succeeding in presenting its beauty to the public. * Wrestling is a combat sport that employs no instruments. The goal of the combatants is to pin both shoulders of the opponent to the mat or to win by points. Today, men compete in two styles of wrestling, Greco-Roman and freestyle, while women only compete in freestyle. In Greco-Roman wrestling, attacking below the waist, hooking legs, or actively using the legs in the execution of holds is forbidden. In freestyle wrestling, the opponent can be grasped below the waist, legs can be hooked and tackled, and the active use of the legs is allowed for all throws. Wrestlers are allowed to grab any part of their own bodies at any time in both styles. However, in Greco-Roman, the wrestler cannot grasp their own legs to hinder the opponent's throw attempt. ¦
