PUBLISHER'S NOTE TO THIRD EDITION
Anew edition of tiie Oxford Illustrated Dictionary forms the first two of these volumes. This new edition has been entirely revised by Mrs. Dorothy Eagle SO as to include entries for words that have recently become established in current usage, and as far as possible an up-to-date record of developments in world affairs, institutions, science and technology. In the United Kingdom, changes that have taken place in the last few years include the adoption of decimal coinage, the gradual substitution of metric for imperial units of measurement, and the coming into force of the Local Government Act of 1972. The dictionary takes account of such changes and reflects the usage of 1975.
