PREFACE TO THE FIRST EDITION The compilers of this work have sought to produce a convenient pocket dictionary, easy of reference, and whose range of words^ will suffice for the average student of English in his general reading. Every effort has been made to overcome the difficulties that present themselves to the author of a concise work of this kind, and to eliminate as far as possible the deficiencies to which a pocket dictionary from its character is subjected. Any intimations from readers of the dictionary regarding corrections or other improvements will be much appreciated. The gratitude of the authors is due to Mr. Gyula Horváth for his valuable assistance in revising the manuscript.
