The Guide to Selecting Plays The 88th Edition of the Guide to Selecting Plays For this new edition of the Guide all the text has been re-set anges o e ui e an^ aii the synopses rewritten to make them more accessible and to take note of newer productions. Plays that are now considered 'period' (i.e. plays of the Fifties and Sixties which should be played in that period to obtain the correct balance of social and moral values) have been included in the classified indexes prior to Parts One and Two. Also included, where possible, are press quotes as a source for publicity purposes. The cast breakdown for each play now gives the male/female ratio and the playing range of ages only, together with a note of any ethnic roles involved. Contemporary casting often has actors playing roles outside their actual age range and the change in details in our Guide reflects this. Thus M5 (18,20s-50s) indicates there are five male roles-aged eighteen and ranging in age from the twenties to the fifties. Similarly F5 (18,20s (1 Asian), 40,50) indicates five women's roles - one aged eighteen, and the other four roles being for two in their twenties (one of whom is an Asian) one aged forty and one aged fifty.
