PREFACE The „ 2nd Workshop on Applied High Tc Research and Education" was held on 28-29 July 1997 in Eger, Hungary. This first Workshop was organized on 19-20 May 1997 at the Ben Gurion University, Beer Sheva, Israel. The fiamework of the series of the workshops is the Israeli-Hungarian intergovernmental scientific and technological cooperation under the code of ISR-18. The 2 Workshop was sponsored by the EFHERD Foundation, Hungary. The participating institutions of the 2nd Workshop were as follows: 1. Phyisics Department, Ben Gurion University, Beer Sheva, Israel 2. Department of Electrical Machines and Drives, Technical University of Budapest 3. Department of Silicate and Materials Engineering, University of Veszprém 4. Metalltech R&D Ltd, Budapest The main goal of the Workshop was to present the results and achievements of the common research and educational activities performed in the fiamé of cooperation in the field of applied high temperature superconductivity. The friendly and creative atmosphere of the workshop provided an excellent possibility for the participants to exchange ideas about the recent results as well as the future development of the cooperation. The papers published in this proceedings were presented as oral presentations of the conference session of the workshop. The round table sessions organized in the evenings were devoted to specific and actual problems of applied high temperature superconductivity. A special attention was paid to the future markét possibilities of high temperature superconducting fault current limiters and alsó to the educational aspects including the ixitroduction of courses on basic and applied superconductivity into engineering curricula in both countries. The participants agreed that both workshops created a good tradition worth to be continued. They were useful and successfiil and they promoted the research and educational activities in applied superconductivity in both countries. The participants expressed they wish to continue the cooperation further on. Budapest, 15 September 1997
