As an example of the first way to use this book, find the color you want in either the coated paper (front) or uncoated paper (back) section of the book. Then read left from the sample to find the percentage of cyan. Read up from the sample to find the percentage of magenta. Look at the top right corner to see the yellow component. And finally, look for the "K" numbers printed in the top left block on the page to see how the black component is displayed, if there is one.
To use the book in the second way, you could find a color specified as 50% cyan, 10% magenta, 20% yellow, and 20% black as follows: Since the color contains black, go to the second half of either the coated or uncoated section, whichever is appropriate for your project. Find the page for 20% yellow. Next, go down the first column of samples until you come to the row for 50% C. Then move across this row until you get to the 10% M column. Within that square, look at the lower left (20% K) corner. That small square shows a printed sample of the color that matches your specifications.
