Preface
The subject of this Pocket Examiner must of necessity be dealt with in rather a truncated manner since answers to pathology essay questions are much longer than can be eased into the limited space available. Thus not only is there a constraint on the number of questions but also on the length of the answers. Nevertheless, it is hoped that by considering the topics of major importance which are dealt with, the student will either have his memory jogged, be edified or have his curiosity sufficiently aroused to encourage him to refer to a textbook. In the last respect, the authors feel that several good texts exist for further reference and would recommend, among others, Muir's Textbook of Pathology and Walter and Israel's General Pathology. We would reassure the undergraduate that subjects which are contentious or changing rapidly with fashion should not depress him when it comes to answering an examination question. Sensible examiners, and most are, seek evidence that the student has attempted to master the subject which, among other things, requires the reading of textbooks. Sensible examiners soon discern if this has not been done.
