WHAT IS CAMPUS CRUSADE FOR CHRIST INTERNATIONAL? Campus Crusade for Christ began as an interdenominational Christian student movement, designed to present the claims of our Savior to that major segment of the collegiate world which has little or no active, vital contact with the Lord Jesus and His church. Because of the remarkable blessing of God upon the student phase of this ministry, other fruitful ministries have developed through the years. Campus Crusade for Christ was born on the campus of the University of California at Los Angeles in the fall of 1951 when Bill Bright, the founder and president, and his wife, Vonette, leased a home near the campus and began to tell the students about Jesus Christ. A 24-hour chain of prayer was organized, and teams of students were trained to take the gospel into fraternities, sororities and dormitories. The response was even greater than had been hoped for. Approximately 250 students, including a number of leaders in different phases of campus life, committed their lives to Christ during the first school year. Campus Crusade believes that the Great Commission can, and by God's grace shall, be fulfilled in this generation. Desiring to fully accomplish that part God has given it in this task. Campus Crusade has expanded its scope to reach every facet of this explosive generation. CAMPUS MINISTRY Campus Crusade for Christ is convinced that the key to reaching the collegians of the world for Christ is to mobilize and train students who will in turn win, build and send others for Christ as a multiplication effort. Staff members are seeking to establish action groups of trained students who actively share their faith in Christ on each of the 3,000 campuses in the United States. Specialized ministries within the Campus Ministry include the athletic, faculty, international student, and music ministries. INTERNATIONAL MINISTRIES The ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ is now well established in more than half of the major countries of the world, and its steady growth creates a constant need for additional trained directors. A national who is totally committed to Christ is carefully selected for each country and then trained in the methods and philosophy of Campus Crusade before beginning the work in his country. International representatives, trained American staff members, are often assigned to assist the national director in a country. HEADQUARTERS MINISTRY The nerve center and heartbeat of Campus Crusade is the international headquarters at Arrowhead Springs. The ministry is coordinated and directed from here as a service to and in full and vital cooperation with the field staff.
