New Horizons in Psychiatry [antikvár]

Preface In this book I have tried to outline the fast-expanding areas of psychiatric research, describing at the same time some of the recent work in this active branch of medicine. It has been my aim to avoid speculation, except when some hypothesis was needed to give order to a section. Preface In this book I have tried to outline the fast-expanding areas of psychiatric research, describing at the same time some of the recent work in this active branch of medicine. It has been my aim to avoid speculation, except when some hypothesis was needed to give order to a section. This bias in favour of factual accounts of work done, rather than notions about how things might be if one were only to look into them, has made me rely very much on articles and commentaries published in psychiatric journals and those of allied disciplines. Therefore, I am very content to say, this book is almost entirely a work of plagiarism and, since I have often been unable to better the phrases used by individual authors, is as much an anthology as a review of the field. Apart from the general debt I owe to my colleagues, I wish to acknowledge the helpful comments of Professor D. Curran, and Sir Paul Mallinson, who read the whole of the original manuscript; psychiatrists who read over single chapters concerning subjects in which they had a special interest, included Professor E. Stengel (Sheffield), Dr A. HofFer (Saskatchewan), Dr B. A. O'Connell (Broadmoor), and Dr H. Rollin (Horton Hospital). Mr T. E. Walsh (Neurosurgeon to St George's Hospital) kindly suggested modifications of the chapter on Neurosurgical Advances and Mr H. Gwynne Jones, the psychologist, read and made welcome suggestions about the chapters on Pavlov and Psychological Testing. Dr A. W. Nine-ham gave me invaluable assistance in compiling the, chapter on new drugs. None of those named above necessarily endorses my views in this book and the responsibility for all errors is my own.
