PREFACE In preparing this revised edition of the Berlitz Second English Book it has been the endeavour of the compilers, whilst continuing the sequence of the lessons as necessitated by the Berlitz Method, to make the book better adapted to the needs of modern life and also to include a representative selection of the best English Literature both classical and modern. We offer our best thanks to the Proprietors of Punch, to Sir Owen Seaman, Mr. E. V. Lucas and the Hon. Maurice Baring for their kind permission to incorporate selections from their works in this volume. The compilers hope that this new edition will provide not only benefit but pleasure for all students who may use it.
