ForewordHere is a book that has long needed writing, one that I wish I might have had available when I was approaching senior responsibility in the business community, one that every executive similarly placed today should, in my opinion, read thoughtfully.I would have said just these words had I come upon Managers for Tomorrow by accident. But to be invited to give my opinion in this foreword is a very special privilege, for it gives me an opportunity to express the very high regard I have for the collective sponsors of the book, Rohrer, Hibler & Replogle. Our country has no finer group of industrial psychologists, and I personally owe them a debt which I can never repay. This book is the compendium of the business philosophy which they shared with me, and which made an invaluable contribution to my active service as a corporate executive.I saw the industrial psychologist arrive on the business scene. I had been there long before he came, and I must confess that I viewed his entry into management with the same dour skepticism that characterized most of my contemporaries. My initial confrontation with this startling new phenomenon was formidable, for I was selected by the then-president of my company to be evaluated professionally by a representative of Rohrer, Hibler & Replogle. The experience brought me up short. The examining was done by Paul J. Brouwer, one of the authors of this volume, and the interviewing lasted for the better part of two days.
