Introduction
The Preparation for TOEFL is geared toward anyone taking the TOEFL (those preferably with a score of 400 upwards). It is designed for both self-study and classroom use. It gives systematic preparation and practice in all areas of the test. The exercises at the end of each section are designed to replicate those of the TOEFL itself as well as testing the particular skills that have been taught.
There are four equally weighted sections: Listening Comprehension, Structure and Written Expression, Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension, and the TWE (Test of Written English).
The language of instruction has been deliberately kept simple to facilitate the use of the book by a wide range of students.
The Preparation for TOEFL has been designed for flexibility of use. The sections can be used in any order, enabling students to work on those areas in which they feel they need extra help. It is suggested that the sample test should be worked straight through, under test conditions and timing.
Complete tapescripts and answer keys are given at the end of the book and a self-scoring scheme is included in the Information about the TOEFL section.
We hope that you will enjoy working through this book and we are confident that it will assist you in obtaining a high score in the actual TOEFL.
