Bővebb ismertető
Letters to Our Children originated from the parenting challenges of Dorothy Badry. Krista, to whom a letter in this book is addressed, began manifesting strange and disturbing symptoms in her second year following birth. Dorothy followed each step in Krista's struggles. She experienced the extremes of the roller coaster of diagnostic, treatment, and caring events so thoroughly documented in this text. The idea for this book came from the conviction that the experiences of parents of children with special needs are important. They are important for parents to say out loud and to put into writing.Every family and every child in every family has its "origins" story. Each story is a declaration of the foundations of identity. Each special and unique story tells who we are, where we have come from, and gives direction and meaning to where we are going. Too often children born with special needs miss out on the stories of their (and their family's) early life experiences. Dorothy's decision to create a project called, "Letters to Our Children," insures that the precious experiences of these parents and of their children are recorded and shared.Letters to Our Children contains many recurring themes. They document special experiences, feelings, joys, and sorrows that these parents have shared with their children. Dorothy and the parents who participated in creating this book will find a well remembered place in the hearts of all who read these letters.John R. McDonald
