Enter Little Anton
Not so long after my wife Stephanie's funeral, my three grown-up kids and I had some twenty friends over to our house to gratefully celebrate the life that Stephanie had lived.
Four-year-old Anton, the son of friends, was also there with us spending most of his time peacefully playing with some wooden animals. Eventually his dad took him out for an afternoon walk. When they came back I was about to encounter for the first time what I now call the "Anton-trait" of re-tuning. I had decided to call for some childfree time just to be with our adult friends. Anton's parents are very understanding friends and we had earlier agreed that I would have the right to make that call any time and they would immediately leave. So when Anton and his father came back I stood outside the door to make clear that it was now the time for Anton's family to go home.
