Author's Note, - i. ;I met Alex Adams in the spring of 1992 and from that time I have been immersed in the world of Hollywood deluxe prostitution. While Alex has been the central resource for Hollywood Madatn^ well over a hundred others have contributed to the book's authenticity. Among these are over fifty clients, some rich and famous, others merely rich; an equal number of call girls; a dozen or so other madams; a sampling of psychiatrists, psychologists, and plastic surgeons, representing the medical support system of the call-girl universe; their cosmetic counterparts: boutiquaries, beauticians, manicurists and masseuses; and, finally, law enforcement officers.Because the use of call girls is so prevalent within the film community in which I work as a screenwriter, I knew quite a few clients who were willing to share their experiences with me. Alex was instrumental in introducing me to the highest end of this market, asking some of her closest friends, the major 'players', to talk to me. They graciously accommodated her.The most difficult task in embarking upon this project was finding high-level call girls, past and present, to speak openly about their profession. Here Alex's participation was essential, in convincing ex-call girls who had gone on to success - maritally, professionally, or both - to talk freely about the darkest secret of their past; as well as persuading current call girls, often earning annual six-figure incomes, to talk freely about the darkest secret of their present. It is a tribute to the esteem in which Alex is held in this unique community that these women trusted her enough to trust me.In Hollywood, everything revolves around validation and credibility.
