Preface Our teaching experience has shown that a very good understanding of the test not only greatly increases your chance of passing the test first time, but also passing it with a very good result. Realistic practice test material used prior to the test, such as shown in this book, will prepare you for the actual test. If you should have problems understanding the information shown in this book, your teacher/tutor will be only too pleased to help you. Each practice test contains realistic tasks of the type you would find in a real ECL examination. There are many ways of using these practice examinations. For instance: • You can take each test as if it were a real examination. • You can use the whole or parts of each test for practice purposes. • You can acquire a general impression of the contents and procedures of the examination by studying the contents of each test. • You can practice your listening comprehension skills by listening to the listening tasks; after which, you should check the answers/tapescript. Notice the keywords that have been used to give the correct answers. You should not read the tapescript as you listen to the recording. In a real exam, you will not have access to the tapescript. If you wish to work through the practice examinations as if it were a real test, you will find answer sheets for each practice exam. A complete answer key is provided, along with the tapescripts of the recordings. You will find it very useful to read these where you have answered questions incorrectly. However, you may need the help of a tutor/teacher to organise the test in the same way as a real examination is conducted.
