Easy Plains in English Preface to the Student
Do you enjoy going to the theater? Do you enjoy watching plays in your own language? Do you like to act out roles, or imagine that you are an actor or an announcer to the stage?
If you do, I think you will enjoy these plays designed for learners of English! Your teacher will help you select and adapt a play for your level, and help you work on the new grammar and expressions. Your teacher will also help you with your pronunciation and phrasing (dividing the words into natural groups or phrases) so your English will sound natural.
It is important, of course, to have a clear understanding of the dialogues for each character and the action that develops the story. When you have been assigned a part to act out in the play, think about the character: What is the character feeling? Why? Is the character happy? Sad? Enthusiastic? Tired? Philosophical? Comical? Poetic? You need to have some concept of the character before you can act out the part.
Try to think of the whole play as a piece of music — with your teacher as an orchestra conductor and you and your classmates in the play as musical instruments. Your teacher
