III JOSEPH HAYDN - CONCERTANTE (Hoboken 1/105) Haydn komponierte die Concertante 1792 in London während seiner ersten englischen Reise. In den zeitgenössischen Ausgaben ist das Werk als „Grand Simphonie Concertante" oder „Sinfonie concertante" bezeichnet, auf der Titelseite des erhaltenen Autographs jedoch nur als „Concertante". Die erste Aufführung fand am 9. März 1792 in den Hanover Square Rooms in London statt. Es war das vierte Konzert der zweiten Konzertserie, die der in London tätige Violinspieler und Impresario Johann Peter Salomon mit Haydn veranstaltete. Die Konzertankündigung in den Londoner Zeitungen nennen die vier Solisten dieses neuen Werkes: Salomon (Violine), Menel (Violoncello), Harrington (Oboe) und Holmes (Fagott). Die Kritiker rühmten Aufführung und Werk, das eine Woche später im nächsten Hay dn-Salomon-Konzert auf Wunsch wiederholt wurde,mit höchsten Lobesworten: Haydn composed the Concertante in London in 1792 during his first visit to England. The work is designated in contemporary editions as a "Grand Simphonie Concertante" or "Sinfonie concertante", but the title page of the extant autograph reads merely "Concertante". The first performance took place on 9th March 1792 in the Hanover Square Rooms in London. It was the fourth concert in the second Haydn - Salomon series arranged by Johann Peter Salomon, then active in London as violinist and impresario. Announcements in contemporary London newspapers name the four soloists for the new work: Salomon (violin), Menel (violoncello), Harrington (oboe) and Holmes (bassoon). The critics lauded both the performance and the work itself, which was repeated by request at the next Haydn-Salomon concert a week later with highest praises: A new concertante from HAYDN combined with all the excellencies of music; it was profound, airy, affecting, and original, and the performance was in unison with the merit of the composition. SALOMON particularly exerted himself on this occasion, in doing justice to the music of his friend HAYDN. (Morning Herald, 12th March 1792) A new Concertante, for a Violin, Violoncello, Oboe, and Bassoon, was performed for the first time with admirable effect. The solo parts were finely contrasted with the "full tide of harmony" of the other instruments, and they were very ably sustained by the respective performers (Morning Chronicle, 12th March 1792) Im Oracle vom 10. März wird der dritte Satz hervorgehoben, „which seemed expressly calculated to shew the brilliancy of SALOMON'S, and the sweetness of his tone." In Haydns Benefizkonzert am 3. Mai 1792 wurde die Concertante wiederholt und auch während Haydns zweiter englischer Reise nochmals aufgeführt. The Oracle of 10th March stresses the third movement, "which seemed expressly calculated to shew the brilliancy of SALOMON'S, and the sweetness of his tone". The Concertante was repeated for Haydn's benefit concert on 3rd May 1792 and performed again during Haydn's second sojourn in England. EE 6532
