THE WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON February 29, 2004 We are delighted to congratulate the United States Department of State as it marks the 40th anniversary of its Art in Embassies program. This outstanding program places the art of hundreds of American artists into our embassies around the world. These works communicate the values and diversity of the people of the United States, as well as the aspirations and hope common to all peoples. We share the excitement of everyone involved in the newest aspect of Art in Embassies, the American Artists Abroad program. For our artists to travel to other countries and participate in community art experiences adds another strong dimension to the bridging of cultures. We are grateful to those whose imagination inspired the idea of showcasing America's art in our embassies, as well as to those whose tireless work, dedication and resources have caused the program to become a great success.
