Roy Medvedev INTRODUCTION In August-September 1970, my brother Zhores A. Medvedev wrote an account of certain events which are undoubtedly of public interest. I was also involved and kept a record of the whole episode for the benefit of our friends. My own notes include many details which are not described by my brother and so complete the picture of what took place. I have arranged the material as follows: Zhores describes events as he directly experienced and interpreted them; at certain points I interrupt his story with my own recollections.
