NICSURVEYSI 9.9SURVEY: A.C. VAN DER TAK NOTES: MIROSLAW JAWORSKISicilian Defence Najdorf VariationIn the Main Line of the Najdorf, the variation 13 i?ic5 14.f6 gf6 15.gf6 1.18 has long held the stage, but the problems facing Black after Perenyi's 16.Hg1!? have still not been solved. Apparently this is the reason that 13 ?.g5, a move in which a player like Browne has never lost his faith, has returned to the limelight. It is true that here White gets attacking chances after 14.?bl ii^eS 15.Wh5, followed by taking on e6, but the strong position of the knight on e5 often compensates for the weakness of d5 and e6. A clear road to advantage for White has not yet been found, even after 15 We7, a move which looks suspect as White can later gain a tempo with iSidS.In the important line 15 Wd8 16.Sg1 h6 17.fe6 g6 18.gf7 ^f7. Black received a heavy blow a few years ago in the game Bronstein-Browne, but in the featured game in this survey Black introduces an interesting new move: 18 '?'f8!?. As is often the case with a novelty in a complex position, the innovation is an instant success. White fails to find an adequate reply and loses his hold on the position. Further investigation can be based on the extensive analysis by the Polish postal player JaworskI given below.
