N and 24°09' Long. E.Sibiu is a county seat with a population of about 110,000 inha-bitants according to the 1966 data. It is situated near the Cibin and Fágáras Mountains, which meet at Turnu-Ro§u (the place where the Olt flows through a beautiful defile on its way to the Danube). When seen on the map or from the aeroplane, Sibiu seems to lie at the centre of a star towards which five rays converge: the roads which link the town: 1 to the South with Wallachia and Oltenia, passing through the Olt Valley and the town of Rimnicu Vilcea; 2 to the East with the towns of Fágáras and Bra§ov, by following the Olt upstream; 3 to the West with the towns of Alba Iulia and Cluj, by passing along the Márginimii Mountains and the Secas Valley; 4 to the North, with the town of Copsa Micá and the Tirnave region, and 5 to the North-East with the town of Sighisoara, passing through the Hirti-baciu Valley.1. Drivingfrom the South along the newly asphalted road which links Sibiu with Rimnicu Vilcea, Craiova and Pitesti, passing through the Olt Defile, and following the old Román road at times, you will reach the village of Boita (Km 250 on D. N. *) 7), burned down seve-ral times by the Tartar's and the Turks, and enter the Sibiu County. Neolithic tools have been discovered near this village. At a short dis-tance, east of Boita, is the village Turnu Rosu (Km 11 on County road 9), noted for the church built by Prince Matei Basarab. A Román camp* National road
