Bővebb ismertető
Dear Visitors, You have come to Prague situated in the centre of Bohemia on the River Vltava. The history of Prague stretches back a thousand years, back to the Middle Ages when this city was already rated as one of the most beautiful in Europe. After long years of isolation Prague is once again open to visitors from all over the world. For the rich beauty of its stonework, for the wealth of its artistic collections and architectural monuments, Prague is rightly sought after, admired and praised. For ages it was the Royal Seat to many princes, kings and emperors, as well as an important metropolis in the heart of Europe. The major fascination for overseas tourists is the fact that already well-preserved architectural monuments were in evidence here long before Columbus' Santa Maria first touched the shores of America in 1492. Prague already boasted the oldest University in Central Europe, founded by Charles 4th. in 1348. In 1357 Petr Palér began the construction of the now famous Charles Bridge in stone to replace the collapsed older Román style version. The tower of the Staroméstská Radnice (Old Town Townhall) was completed in 1364, and the Astronomical Clock was installed in 1410. The movement of the Apostles together with other mobile figures of the clock is still fascinating today by its very rarity. And we could continue listing Prague's remarkable monuments, somé of which date back from an even earlier period. For example Prague Castle, the dominant feature of the left bank of the Vltava, was founded as early as the 9th. Century. The second castle, Vysehrad, on the right bank was founded in the lOth. Century.
