They will always pass before our eyes as a sequence of treasures and masterpieces full of art, history and life.The aim of this illustrated Album is to fix the image of Florence in few, but meaningful pictures, to gather, one by one, the highlights of its artistic life, and offer to the City a tribute to its beauty. In compiling this illustrated Guide, our aim has always been to enable tourist to obtain in a short time a great deal of informations to serve above all in helping him to find his way among the masterpieces and art treasures to be found in Florence, where every street and square in the old centre brings to life again, unchanged, the medieval period and the splendour of the Renaissance.We therefore decided to give only the most important data, leaving aside thel long lists of historical and artistic details. Only the most outstanding of the countless marvellous works of art to be found in the Museums and Galleries are mentioned here, with the names of the greatest artists, but in such a way as to give a clear idea of their importance. We do not pretend to have provided a history of this magnificent City, tre cradle of Italian art and civilisation, for that, would have required several volumes: instead, we have produced a practical guide, easy to consult and yet providing all the informations required.
