PrefaceNowadays there are many comprehensive guidebooks on the markét packed with informa-tion about Laké Balaton and its resorts. This book cannot, nor does it wish to compete with them, but rather, by its pictorial style, to complement them. It is our de-sire, through this delightful col-lection of colour photographs to capture the Laké Balaton of the late twentieth century, and alsó to enable those who love the laké to recall at any time the precious memories engraved in their minds. It is hoped you will see the laké represented not only as you re-member it, but alsó from other different and interesting points of view.The young, photographers have striven to show the laké and its surrounding areas as they are in true life, yet at the same time incorporating vari-ous aspects of not only its natural beauty, but its historical values and traditional architecture, thus creating a deeper, more complete image.The pictures in this book bear witness to the fact that Balaton region is more than just a place for fun and recreation. The people who have the good fortune to dwell here, are alsó an integrál part of the face of countryside, along with its scintillating lights and colours, impressive monu-ments and constantly changing and renewing landscape. It is the spiritual, historical and natural richness of the area, which led the young photographers from Pécs to produce this collection of pictures, full of images and memories from their own childhood days which were fortunate enough to have been spent on the shores of the lake. Thus they alsó have their personal reasons for presenting a genu-ine image of Lake Balaton in pictorial form. It is the writer's wish that the accompanying texts in this book should lead the reader into a deeper and more complete appreciation of the incomparable little world which constitutes Lake Balaton.
