I /I / ant to know my favorite ^^ shortcut to making a good
meal great? Just take it outdoors. Even an ordinary peanut butter and jelly sandwich seems like something special if you enjoy it with a view of a lovely tree or babbling brook.
Far too often, people reserve dining alfresco for special occasions—and only In summer. This book encourages you to "dine out," even in the middle of the week. With the exception of winter (unless you live in a warm climate), most of the year is perfect for eating outdoors. Think autumn picnic with a Thermos of hearty soup and freshly baked bread tied up in a tea towel or a spring garden luncheon featuring baby vegetables. Create some new family traditions: for
instance, a post-soccer-practice patio lunch or Saturday noontime flea-marketing brunch in the gazebo. When you spend more time outdoors, you create an away-on-vacation feeling in your life every day.
If you expect that dining outdoors means planning a buffet of twenty dishes, then check out some of our menus. You could take a few appetizers and drinks to the garden or just enjoy a simple lunch of sandwiches. But we don't neglect the big events. There are lots of suggestions for themed parties. Potting-shed buffet, anyone? July 4th dessert party? 1 guarantee they'll provide a springboard for your own creativity.
Happy dining out!
