We are not similarly unencumbered, and the majority of us possess a great many things that are the necessary adjuncts of our sophisticated and complex twentieth-century lives. In fact, we tend to own so many things that we are not always sure where they all are. Possessions accumulate and, as they accumulate, they dominate, until there comes a point when they positively threaten to take over our houses and our lives.
Few people hanker after a medieval lifestyle, but restoring a degree of simplicity to everyday life is still a worthwhile goal. The first step in reorganization is to make a thorough review of what you own, and to discard or recycle whatever is unnecessary.
